Course: Alte Säge Parking (Start) ➔ Marzoner Alm ➔ Trail No. 9a ➔ Almbach Stream ➔ Trail No. 18 ➔ Schweinstall Forest Road ➔ Lake Zirmtal / Zirmtalalm (Destination & highest point)
This outstandingly scenic hike leads you to the idyllic Lake Zirmtal (Zirmtaler See), which is widely considered one of the most beautiful and romantic mountain lakes in South Tyrol. Your hike begins at the "Alte Säge" parking lot (1,400 m), which you can reach by car from Castelbello via Latschinig and Freiberg. First, follow the pleasant forest road heading east to the idyllic Marzoneralm (1,600 m). From the pasture, continue in a southeastern direction on trail No. 9a until you reach the junction at the Almbach stream. After crossing the stream, follow trail No. 18 to the Schweinstall forest road. Cross the forest road and continue climbing south on trail No. 18. The path winds up through pine forests until you finally reach the high plateau and the Lake Zirmtal (2,114 m), with the Zirmtalalm sitting right at the water's edge. The return trip can be made via the same route. Circular loop option: Continue along the lake on trail No. 18 to the Zirmtalalm, descend from there via trail No. 4, and later return via trail No. 9 to the Marzoner Alm and back to the parking lot.
