Where to eat: Eishof (South Tyrolean specialties amidst a mountain backdrop), Mitterkaser Alm & Rableid Alm (homemade alpine cheese and traditional dishes), Gasthof Vorderkaser/Jägerrast (directly at the start and finish point)

Course: Vorderkaser / Jägerrast (Start) ➔ Mitterkaser Alm ➔ Rableid Alm ➔ Eishof (Destination & highest point) ➔ Rableid Alm ➔ Mitterkaser Alm ➔ Vorderkaser (Return path)

The Pfossental Valley is widely considered one of the most beautiful and pristine valleys in South Tyrol. You start at the toll parking lot near the "Vorderkaser" inn (Gasthof Jägerrast, 1,690 m), which can be reached easily by car or by shuttle bus from Naturno. From here, follow the wide, well-maintained valley path (Trail No. 24, part of the Merano High Route) along the rushing Pfossentalbach stream. The path ascends very gently, making it highly suitable for families with strollers. Passing lush alpine meadows, the trail first leads you to the cozy Mitterkaser Alm and shortly after to the Rableid Alm (2,004 m). With a bit of luck and a watchful eye on the steep grassy slopes, you can spot chamois, ibex, or marmots in their natural habitat. After a final brief section through sparse larch forests, you will reach the wide basin of the Eishof (2,070 m), the highest point of the hike, offering a magnificent view of the surrounding three-thousand-meter peaks of the Texel Group. Return comfortably along the same route.
