Info
An excursion to Europe's largest alpine pasture and the heart of the Schlern region. Start in Merano (Meran) and drive via Bolzano (Bozen) into the lower Eisack Valley to Blumau (Prato all'Isarco). From here, a winding scenic road climbs up through the idyllic village of Völs am Schlern (Fiè allo Sciliar) to Seis am Schlern (Siusi). Park your car in Seis and take the modern gondola lift effortlessly up to the high plateau of the Seiser Alm (1,680 m to 2,350 m). Up here, enjoy sweeping views of Mount Schlern, Langkofel, and Plattkofel, along with endless gentle walking paths across alpine meadows. After taking the cable car back down to Seis, continue your drive to nearby Kastelruth (Castelrotto). This historic village center is famous as the home of the folk music group "Kastelruther Spatzen" and features beautifully decorated historic houses. Your return journey descends scenic mountain roads to Waidbruck (Ponte Gardena), returning comfortably via the Eisack Valley and Bolzano to Merano.
