Mediterranean charm in the heart of the Alps – Winding through vineyards to the warmest lake in the region. Start in Merano and drive down the sunny Adige Valley toward Bolzano until you reach Firmian, right below the impressive castle housing the Messner Mountain Museum. Branch onto the scenic South Tyrolean Wine Road. The route winds gently through the charming wine-making villages of Girlan, Appiano, and Caldaro. Enjoy cruising through endless rows of vines before arriving at the shores of Lake Caldaro (215 m). As the warmest bathing lake in the Alps, Lake Caldaro invites you to linger. Take a refreshing dip, rent a pedal boat, try windsurfing, or simply stroll along the lakeside promenade admiring the protected reed reserve on the southern shore. The relaxed return journey takes you back via Kaltern and Eppan straight to Merano.
