Course: Enzian Parking Lot (Start, 2,050 m) ➔ Trail No. 31 ➔ Zufallhütte Refuge (2,264 m) ➔ Junction Trail No. 103 ➔ Marteller Hütte Refuge (Destination & highest point, 2,610 m) ➔ Return via same route ➔ Enzian Parking Lot
A high-alpine refuge experience at the foot of glaciated giants in the Stelvio National Park. Drive to the end of the Martello Valley road to the parking lot near Gasthof Enzian (2,050 m, parking fee applies). Begin your hike along the well-maintained trail No. 31, which ascends moderately up to the historic Zufallhütte Refuge (Rifugio Nino Corsi, 2,264 m). Shortly past the Zufallhütte, you will reach a trail junction. Here, branch off onto path No. 103. The trail now climbs noticeably steeper through rugged alpine terrain, over rocky moraine ridges, and across sparse alpine pastures. With every step, views of the Ortler-Cevedale glaciers expand, until you finally reach the magnificently perched Marteller Hütte Refuge (Rifugio Martello, 2,610 m). After a well-deserved meal on the panoramic terrace, descend along the same route back to the Enzian parking lot.
