A soul-nourishing hike to a historic pilgrimage site right beneath the Ortler's North Face. Start in the mountain village of Trafoi near the famous Hotel "Schöne Aussicht" (1,540 m) – the hometown and residence of South Tyrolean ski legend Gustav Thöni. Follow the well-marked Trail No. 10 / 18 heading south, walking gently and comfortably up the valley. The path runs along the rushing Trafoi stream and through light coniferous forest directly into the mystical head of the valley to the Holy Three Fountains (1,600 m). Upon reaching the site, visit the small 18th-century pilgrimage chapel and sample the fresh, cold spring water, which has been believed to have healing properties for centuries. For the return trip, take Trail No. 13, a lovely forest path running slightly higher along the hillside. This path eventually rejoins Trail No. 10, taking you comfortably back to the village of Trafoi.
