Equipment: Hiking boots with non-slip soles (essential for the often stony, uneven mountain trails), sun protection, and sufficient drinking water. Tips: If you prefer to protect your knees, you can hike back to Aschbach after your break at the Platterhof and float back down into the valley. Where to eat: Platterhof (rustic alpine tavern with South Tyrolean cuisine and a panoramic terrace), Inns in the mountain village of Aschbach as well as in the town center of Naturno

This hike takes you into the pristine world of South Tyrolean mountain farms on the Monte Tramontana. Your tour begins with a scenic ride on the cable car from Rabland up to the mountain village of Aschbach (1,362 m). At the top, hike along trail No. 16 heading towards Naturno. The path leads you through shady forests and gentle slopes to the Brandhof, famous for its charming little farm chapel. Past the Brandhof, you will cross an idyllic alpine meadow offering wide views over the Adige Valley. Soon, a rustic forest path branches off, leading you down across the Ploner Bach stream. On the opposite side, the trail climbs slightly until you reach the traditional Ploner Hof farm. With a panorama of the Naturno valley basin and the mighty peaks of the Texel Group, you will continue your walk to your destination, the hospitable Platterhof (refreshment stop). After a well-deserved rest, follow trail No. 30, which leads you steadily downhill through varied landscapes directly back to Naturno.
